Amy Philips recently took on the role of coordinating events for our communities team. They support more than hundred people each day – and a crucial part of that support is the opportunity to socialise, which is where Amy comes in 🙂
The Communities team help people with learning disabilities in our community.
“Immensely proud” is how Oli Westwood talks about his team. The 63 staff work around the clock to support some of the most vulnerable adults in Dudley.
And those adults are living happy and independent lives as a result. “They are the best! The self-sacrifice they offer, the time they take out of their own schedule, the quality of support and care and empathy they give is just the best. They always put their service users first.”
The care service provides support for adults with a variety of needs including learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries, autism and mental health Oli’s support workers help with day-to-day tasks like preparing meals, medication, shopping and budgeting. They work with adults in their own homes and also in CHADD’s eight supported living complexes across Dudley.
Oli says a big chunk of their work is about building confidence. “Everyone deserves to live a happy life. Our support allows them to have that confidence and be able to achieve things they may not be able to on their own.” Oli says he joined CHADD when it merged with Langstone Society two years ago which was a time of some uncertainty for staff. But despite ups and downs the team and service users are a ‘family’ and are now flourishing. “The service and care is second to none and we have a really good team and the service users are comfortable and content. ”
