We have two young people shortlisted for national awards.
The first is Ethan Appleby who has been living at our On Route Foyer. The Inspirational Youth Awards made him a finalist in the said of Ethan:

“Through the “Branching Out” programme, designed to build confidence and teamwork skills, Ethan not only excelled but also impressed the staff with his dedication and leadership potential.
His outstanding contribution led to an invitation to volunteer, followed by an employment contract, marking the first step in his journey to independence and growth. Recognising his talent in animation and social media, Foyer staff invited Ethan to manage their social media platforms and record video content. Ethan’s innovative approach and vision significantly enhanced the Foyer’s online presence, driving increased engagement from young residents.
His role as a peer mentor has created a safe and supportive environment, empowering other young people to voice their ideas and participate in community activities. Ethan’s leadership extended to the RISE project, where he took on the role of leading activities for fellow residents, further solidifying his position as a positive role model. His involvement has not only increased participation but also allowed staff to focus on other support initiatives, enhancing the overall impact of the Foyer’s programmes.
With a vision for growth and a commitment to uplifting others, Ethan Appleby is not just rebuilding his life but is also transforming his community, making him a truly inspirational figure.”
And we also have Connor Buxton – a finalist for the Inclusivity Award.

Connor Buxton is an inspiring LGBTQ+ advocate and community leader who has made a significant impact by launching Rainbow+, an LGBTQ+ Hub located in Merry Hill Shopping Centre, providing a safe space and supportive community for local LGBTQ+ individuals. Taking the lead on this group project, Connor chaired all meetings, finalised plans, and delivered a compelling presentation to successfully secure funding, turning the vision of Rainbow+ into a vibrant drop-in hub. Under Connor’s leadership, Rainbow+ has become a welcoming sanctuary, operating on weekends to support, connect, and uplift the LGBTQ+ community. Dedicated to creating positive change, Connor has also undergone extensive training and volunteered at numerous events, proudly representing the LGBTQ+ community. Rainbow+ gained widespread recognition at Dudley Pride, where Connor’s stall was a standout success, reflecting the community’s enthusiasm and need for such a space. Despite funding challenges, Connor remains committed to growing and sustaining Rainbow+, ensuring its positive impact continues to reach more young people. Through his leadership, advocacy, and passion for inclusion, Connor Buxton is breaking barriers and fostering a more inclusive society.

Good luck to both for the awards next month.
